Women’s Rights In Badakhshan In Jeopardy

Afghan women are no strangers to gender-based violence. For decades now, violent crimes against women have been heading for epic proportions, as young girls are forced into marriage, wives and daughters are abused, and women are dealt harsh punishments for ‘moral crimes’.
Statistics about violence against women in Badakhshan is alarming, said officials in women’s affairs department in Badakhshan.
Officials in women’s affairs department in Badakhshan are said to consider the reason for violence against women are poverty, beating, abuses, failure to pay alimony and forced marriages.
Zafnon Natiq, head of women affairs in Badakhshan said that 133 cases over violence against women have been recorded that indicates an increase than the last year.
Violence against women is considered a widespread and undeniable reality in Afghanistan’s society.
As the ongoing security transition and the election’s disputes are currently top priorities for the government, the civil organizations needs to step up campaigns to get international attention to the worsening situation for the women of Afghanistan.
