The troops will be deployed sometimes before October of this year.
According to the reports the deployment is part of a regular rotation of U.S. forces in counter-terrorism operations.
This comes as President Barak Obama earlier this month announced that he plans to keep 8,400 troops in Afghanistan until the end of his term.
Obama’s initial plan for Afghanistan was to reduce U.S. troops presence in Afghanistan to 5,500 before he left the office but changed idea when recommended by top U.S. commanders in Afghanistan.
Currently, there are about 9,800 U.S. troops in service in Afghanistan.
