At least 12 Taliban insurgents including a shadow district governor of the armed group were killed in an operation conducted by Afghan Special Forces in eastern Nangarhar province, a local official said on Wednesday.
Attaullah Khogyani, a spokesman for the provincial governor told Arian News that Afghan Special Forces launched an operation on Tuesday night at Gandomak area in Sherzad district of the province.
According to Khogyani, a Taliban shadow governor for Chaparhar district along with 11 militants was killed during the raid.
He said the Taliban commander was identified as Shaheen Adil.
Khogyani added that 700 kg hashish and a number of weapons were also destroyed during the military raid.
Separately, the Afghan Special Forces conducted an operation in Achin district of Nangarhar, killing 35 Daesh fighters and destroying 7 IEDs, sources said.
The Taliban, however, claimed that all the victims of the incident were civilians including women.
Nangarhar is among insecure provinces in eastern Afghanistan, where Taliban and Daesh militant are actively operating in a number of its districts.
