Taliban Likely to be Invited for Consultative Loya Jirga: Daudzai
Umer Daudzai, Head of the High Peace Council’s Secretariat and President Ghani’s special peace envoy said on Monday that the Taliban representatives are likely to be invited to attend the upcoming Consultative Loya Jirga on peace.
Addressing a press conference, Daudzai said that Kabul jirga will consult with people on the government’s all set preconditions for possible peace agreements with the Taliban.
He said the jirga will focus on the issues that could pave way for official talks between the government and the Taliban.
The Consultative Loya Jirga is expected to be held on March 17 in Kabul and last for three days.
The government has formed a commission that will be responsible for holding the jirga which consists of 50 members from politicians and civil activists. 30 percent of the participants of the jirga is expected to be women.
