Despite of the Afghan government peace efforts, the Taliban group have announced the launch of their spring offensive against the US-led Coalition and Afghan government under the name of “Operation Omari”
In a statement released by the Taliban on Tuesday, the anti-government militants said the operation had begun across Afghanistan at 5 a.m. on April 12.
Taliban says they have completed fourteen years of ‘Jihad’ against the American invasion and continuing this war is an ‘obligation upon their neck for reestablishing an Islamic system and regaining independence’.
According to the statement, the campaign is started by the current Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour in honor of his predecessor, Mullah Mohammad Omar, who died three years ago.
The operation will be bloody as the group announced that they will continue to their suicide attacks, tactical attacks and assassinations to demoralize the foreign and Afghan forces.
The announcement of the so-called “spring-offensive” comes as the Afghan government is struggling in the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) format to bring the Taliban groups to the negotiation table.
