Taliban Commander ‘Arrested’ in Kabul City

Afghan Intelligence operatives have arrested a commander of the Taliban in Kabul City, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said in a statement Tuesday.

The commander identified as Abdul Rahim known as Maiwand was leading at least 20 Taliban insurgents and arrested in Police District 5 of Kabul, the statement said.

“The commander is one of the masterminds of terrorist attacks for the  Taliban’s Quetta Shura which had involved in number of attacks in Uruzgan province,” the statement read.

“He entered [the city] on the orders of the Taliban and aimed to plot terrorist attacks in Kabul city during Eid-al-Fitr,” it added.

However, the statement did not provide details when the commander was arrested.
