At least five members of the Afghan security forces were killed and six others injured after Taliban militants attacked their checkpoints in Khulm district of Balkh province, a local official said on Thursday.
Adel Shah Adel, a spokesman for provincial police chief, said the checkpoints are located in border between Qalazal district of Kunduz and Khulum district of Balkh province.
He added that casualties have been inflicted to the Taliban militants as well but the exact number was unknown.
The police official further said that fresh troops have arrived in the area.
The insurgent group has not made a comment about the report yet.
