The statement added that the Ministry of Defense has launched an inquiry on the completion of which, a detailed report will be published.

Afghan forces stormed a Taliban prison in western Farah province and rescued at least seven people, the Interior Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

According to the statement, the operation was conducted in the Purchaman district of the province.

The Ministry added that all the rescued individuals were civilians.

On Thursday night, Afghan Special Forces carry out a raid on a Taliban prison in southern Helmand province as well and rescued at least 13 people who were kept as hostages.

Kidnapping and hostage taking has become a common occurrence in Afghanistan. Three days ago the Taliban militants abducted 43 residents of Khwaja Omri district in central Ghazni province but all the 43 people were released after the mediation by tribal elders of the province.

The Taliban militant group yet to make a comment regarding the incident.

The Taliban militants have captured the center of Anar Darah district of western Farah province, a local official said on Saturday.

Mohibullah Mohib, a spokesman for the provincial police told Ariana News that, the insurgents captured the buildings of the district and police headquarters after hours of clashes with Afghan forces.

Mohib stressed that Afghan security forces have retreated from the district to prevent civilian casualties.

However, he added that back up forces will deploy to the area until Saturday’s evening and the clearing operations will be started in the nearest time to take back the control of the two buildings.

The two sides have suffered casualties in the clashes but the exact number of their casualties was not clear.

The Taliban militant group yet to make a comment about the incident.

Farah is among the insecure provinces in the west part of Afghanistan where the Taliban militants are operating in a number of its districts.

At least 13 captives were freed from a Taliban prison in an operation by Afghan forces in western Farah province, the NDS said.

The Afghan National Directorate of Security (NDS) Special Force conducted an operation in Bakwa district of the province, the statement said.

Afghan forces have rescued 13 people including five security personnel who were kept in the Taliban captivity in the Taliban prison, the statement added.

The statement further said that Afghan forces have also arrested a Taliban fighter during the raids.

The Taliban yet to make a comment about the incident.

At least 103 militants including the Taliban shadow governor for Farah and two senior leaders of the group were killed in ground and air operations in western Farah province.

Ministry of Defense said in a statement that the Afghan Air Forces conducted an airstrike in Khak-e-Safid district of the province at around 8:10 pm on Friday night.

As a result, the Taliban Shadow Governor for Farah, Mullah Abdul Bari, the group’s Finance and Logistics chief, Mullah Sadiq, and the Ring Leader of Taliban Mawlavi Saeed were killed, the statement said.

Meanwhile, Afghan forces conducted air and ground operations at Ginahkan and Ruj villages, and in the provincial capital at around 10 pm on Friday night, police said.

Muhibullah Muhib, a spokesman for Farah police told Ariana News that at least 100 Taliban insurgents were killed and 50 others were wounded in the raids.

A number of Taliban weapons and 14 vehicles of the group were also destroyed during the operations, Muhib added.

The Taliban militant group yet to make a comment about the incidents.

At least 35 people were killed in a roadside mine blast in Herat-Kandahar Highway early on Wednesday morning, local officials confirmed.

The incident has taken place at Shawis area of Farah province at around 7 am on Wednesday.

A bus carrying dozens of passengers was traveling from Farah to the western Herat province, a health official, Mohammad Ibrahimi said.

At least 27 people including women and children were also wounded in the incident, a spokesman for Farah police Mohibullah Mohib said.

Meanwhile, a security official told Ariana News that the Taliban militants had planted the mine at the area.

No group or individual including Taliban militant group has claimed responsibility for the explosion.

Jailani Farhad, the provincial governor spokesman said Mullah Fazel Ahmad also known as Hujrat was killed in Ali Abad village of Zairkoh district in an air strike carried out by the foreign forces.

According to Mr. Farhad, the Taliban commander was involved in attacks over security checkpoints, kidnapping, and other crimes in western Herat province.

In a separate incident, Afghan Air Forces (AAF) killed two key members of the Taliban insurgent group in Pushtroad district of Farah province on Thursday.

Farah police spokesman, Mohibullah Mohib said that the airstrike was carried out over the vehicle of Mullah Zalmay and Mullah Hijrat in Gosha village of Pushtroad district.

The Taliban insurgent group has not made a comment about these reports yet.

At least four Taliban insurgents were killed and five others wounded in clashes with the Afghan forces in western Farah province, Interior Ministry (MoI) said in a statement.

In a statement released on Saturday, MoI said that Afghan security forces conducted an operation in Shaikh Abad village of the provincial capital, Farah city, in which three militants were killed and three others injured.

In a separate incident, at least a militant was shot dead and two others injured by the Afghan forces during a raid, the statement added.

During the operation, four armed-mine were also defused by Afghan forces, the statement further said.

Top Afghan security officials and commander of the Resolute Support Mission General Austin Scott Millar visited Herat province on Tuesday to review the security situation of the province.

Ministry of Defense said in a statement on Tuesday that Acting Defense Minister Asadullah Khalid, Deputy Interior Minister for Security Brigadier Gen. Khushal Sadat, Gen. Scott Miller, Resolute Support Commander held meetings with the provincial governor and security leaders of  Herat and discussed the security situation of the province.

It comes as Afghan security officials and Resolute Support Commander on Monday visited Farah, where they discussed security and peace with the provincial officials.

“The people are ready to secure their lands from the Taliban,” said Mohiuddin Khairkhwa, Farah provincial police chief.

“We have made a lot of success but there is more to do.” Minister Khalid said to the group, “We are here to listen to your challenges and act on those challenges.”

According to Gen. Miller, they made the trip to the west to meet with the security pillars.

“We came to Farah with the ANDSF leadership to meet with the security leaders supporting the people’s quest for peace,” Miller said.

“Shoulder to shoulder, day and night we stand together,” said Farah provincial governor Shoaib Sabit.

For instance, the prices for each kilogram of vegetables like cucumber and eggplant have slumped to one Afghani, the prices for each kilogram of tomato and okra have slumped to three Afghanis, and the price for each kilogram of watermelon has slumped to one Afghani.

The farmers say that in most of the cases their harvests were not sold even with the low prices.

They ask for immediate marketing for their harvests and stress that the government should build fridges. Otherwise, they will quit cultivating vegetables and fruits.

The Agriculture Director of Farah describes the absence of facilities for transmitting the harvests to other provinces especially Kabul as the main reason for the reduction in the prices.

“Recently, some of the merchants told us that when they want to export the products to Kabul lots of their cars are being stopped for several hours because of the problems with the Kabul’s entrance gate scanner,” said Abdulmanan Mateen, the Agriculture Director of Farah.

Farah is among the agriculturally fertile provinces in the west of the country which harvests different kinds of vegetables and fruits.

Initially, Mohiuddin Khairkhwa, the police chief of Farah province said that the Imam of a mosque in the district has opened fire on 11 members of his family including his wife and children.

Later on, provincial police spokesman Mohibullah Mohib said the man is an active member of the Taliban militant group and Imam of a mosque in the area. Mohib said he has killed 12 members of his family.

According to the police official, the man has shot dead six members of his own family including his wife, children, and his old father and later he has gunned down six members of a close relative.

He further said that Afghan security forces have launched an operation in the district to arrest the culprit.

Immediately, the motive of the incident was not clear.

However, local residents told Ariana News that the man had a mental problem and the Taliban militants have detained him.

The Taliban insurgent group has not made a comment about the report yet.

Heavy clashes are underway between security forces and Taliban insurgents in Purchaman district of Farah province, local officials said Monday.

The district police Chief Abdul Qadir told Ariana News that the clash broke after on Sunday dozens of Taliban insurgents intensified coordinated attacks in parts of Purchaman district.

At least three Afghan soldiers have been killed and three others wounded in the incident so far, he said.

The official said that Taliban militants have also suffered casualties as three fighters of the group have been killed so far.

He further added that the insurgents have opened fire on a woman and injured at least three civilians.

The militants have also set ablaze at least six houses of local residents, Abdul Qadir said.

According to the official, at the moment heavy clashes are ongoing between the Taliban fighters and Afghan security forces.

The Taliban militant group has not made a comment about the incident yet.

At least five policemen were killed and seven others injured after Taliban militants attacked a border police checkpoint in western Farah province, a local official said on Sunday.

Provincial police spokesman Muhibullah Muhib said the incident took place on Saturday night in Pashmaki area of Lash Jawin district which is located in the border with Iran.

Muhib added that Afghan forces pushed the Taliban attack back by killing three militants including Mullah Noor Ahmad the Taliban shadow governor for Lash Jawin district.

He further said that three Taliban fighters were also injured in the clashes.

However, Shah Mahmoud Naimi, deputy of Farah provincial council told Ariana News that six members of border police were killed and four others wounded in the clashes.

He urged the Afghan security forces to expand their presence in the districts and across the province.

Farah is among the volatile districts in the west of Afghanistan where the Taliban insurgent group has a huge presence and usually carrying out attacks against the government forces.

The attack comes a day after at least 30 Taliban fighters surrendered to the government in the province.

Ahmadi said as a result at least nine Taliban militants were killed.

During the raids, a number of Taliban’s vehicles and weapons were also destroyed, he added.

Mohibullah Mohib, a spokesman for Farah police told Ariana News that the special operation was conducted at Gogahkan and Ruj areas of Farah city on Tuesday night.

According to Mohib, at least six Taliban insurgents including a group’s local commander have been killed and eight others injured during the raids.

The Taliban commander was identified as Asad, who was in involved in destructive activities in the province, Mohib added.

The local Taliban insurgents have confirmed the incident.

Mohib added that no casualties have been inflicted to the Afghan commando forces during the operation.

It comes as on Sunday night the Taliban militants stormed military outposts in Gulistan district of Farah province, killing more than 20 soldiers and wounding several others.

Dadullah Qani, a member of Farah provincial council told Ariana News that Taliban militants raided on Toot and Chakab outposts of the Afghan army in Gulistan district last night, killing more than 20 soldiers and wounding several others.

Provincial security officials have not made a comment about the report.

However, a Taliban spokesman said in a statement that they have killed 25 soldiers.

He further claimed a large number of weapons and equipment were seized and two soldiers were taken captive.

A day earlier, NATO forces hit Taliban hideouts in Bakwa district of the province.

Provincial police spokesman Muhibullah Muhib said that 18 Taliban militants were killed and 25 others injured in the airstrikes conducted by foreign forces on Sunday.

He added that 53 explosive devices and drug factories were also destroyed during the air-raids.

The latest Taliban attack came despite President Ashraf Ghani’s call for peace and reconciliation during the month of Ramadan.

“I once again call on the Taliban to respect this holy month and address the demand of Afghans for peace and reconciliation which was reflected at the Loya Jirga for peace,” he said.

The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan also urged all warring parties in Afghanistan to halt fighting during the holy month.

The Taliban militant group has executed two men accused of robbery and rape in Khak-i-Safid district of western Farah province.

The incident has taken place at Juma Bazar area on Khak-i-Safid district, the provincial officials have confirmed.

In a video clip released on Friday, the militants claimed that the two individuals were involved in theft and had raped a woman on Farah-Herat highway.

The two individuals were executed before the crowds as the Taliban issued their verdict.
