A suicide car bomb targeted US convoy in the vicinity of the 9th police district of the city on the main road to the airport, around 500 metres (550 yards) from the US embassy around 1:30 pm on Tuesday.

Kabul chief of police confirmed the incident, saying the suicide attacker targeted four vehicles of the foreign forces as they traveled along the airport road in Kabul.

According to Abdul Rahman Rahimi, Kabul chief of police, one civilian was killed and 22 other civilians were wounded.

Head of Kabul’s Central Hospital, Dr. Kabir Amiri said, “17 injured people, including three children and a woman, were taken to different hospitals in the city after the attack.”

An eyewitness, Ahmad Farhad, says he saw a car ram into “the convoy of foreign forces.” He says vehicles were damaged and there were wounded everywhere, with “no one to help them.”

The Taliban group have claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing that targeted a US convoy in Kabul on Tuesday.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the suicide attack via Twitter.

Stretched on multiple fronts and facing record casualties, Afghan forces are struggling to rein in the militants even as the government makes repeated efforts to jump-start peace negotiations.

The Taliban’s annual summer offensive has sent civilian and military casualties soaring and threatened major cities for the first time in a decade.
