The spokesman of Interior Ministry, Sidiq Sidiqi says that highest security measures have been taken to ensure smooth observance of Ashura all across the country, particularly the capital, Kabul.

Sidiqi assured people that no incidents will happen in the days of Muharam and Ashura and also demanded the residents to cooperate with the police.

He also urged the city dwellers to help the law enforcement agencies through providing information regarding any possible subversive or criminal activities so that they can take instant actions in this regard.

According to Atiqullah Amar Khail, a military analyst, security measures have been taken better compared to the past years.

Muharram is a month of remembrance that is often considered synonymous with the event of Ashura.

Ashura, which literally means the “Tenth” in Arabic, refers to the tenth day of Muharram and Muslims regard as among the holiest days of the year.

Ashura is well-known because of historical significance and mourning for the martyrdom and sacrifice of Hussein ibn Ali (A.S), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for the sake of protecting Islam.

This comes as three years ago, on the same day, about 80 people were killed and hundreds were injured in a series of terror attacks in Kabul, Mazar e Sharif and Kandahar cities of Afghanistan.

Attack in Kabul was the bloodiest as it took lives of 70 people including women and children. The same may repeat, if proper security measures are not taken by government with support from the people.
