Unidentified gunmen shot dead a senior officer of National Directorate of Security (NDS) in western Herat province on Sunday, officials said.
Provincial authorities have confirmed the incident, saying the incident happened around 11am in Darb-Malik area of City Herat when some armed men opened fire on head of heavy criminal department of NDS.
Another member of NDS was injured in the attack, the source added. The assailants have managed to escape the area.
According to witnesses, a number of armed men attacked the NDS men and then fierce clashes started that longed for some minutes.
The hospital officials stated both the NDS affiliates were shot on their heads.
So far, no group including Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
