Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has announced support for Pashtuns who staged protest in Pakistan.

“The Pashtun Long March is a very positive initiation against fundamentalism that morally binds on each and every one of us to support them,” President Ghani tweeted.

He also called the march a response to fundamentalism after the bloody incidents in Kabul.

“After the tragedies in Kabul, I had remarked that Afghans and the people of this region should align against terrorism. I consider the Pashtun Long March a response to those remarks and a wake-up call against fundamentalism,” Ghani’s tweet reads.

President also urged the media outlets to help Pashtuns to show their demands to the world.

“I call on media to impartially fulfill their duties and help Pashtun Long March in voicing their grievances and demands and presenting their true image to the world,” he said. “I hope Pashtuns would also succeed in uprooting and eradicating terrorism from their region.”

It has been over a week since thousands of ethnic Pashtuns from Pakistan’s tribal areas marched toward the country’s federal capital.

Their key demands include: arresting and punishing the police officer who allegedly kidnapped and killed a young shopkeeper from Waziristan tribal region in Karachi in a fake police encounter; remove all the landmines from Waziristan and the rest of the tribal belt; produce all the so-called “missing persons,” tribesmen who have allegedly been taken into custody by the state security agencies; remove the security check posts, where tribesmen have to prove their identity each time they enter their villages and towns; and put an end to frequent curfews on the movement of locals in the name of security.
