The head of IEC was dismissed based on a decree from President Ashraf Ghani.
In addition, the President has urged all relevant institutions to submit a list of their nominees for IEC membership.
Ghani’s office said the decision was made after a request received from the IEC commissioners on November 12.
But Mr. Ahmadzai called the decision “against the law and democracy” and warned that it will take the country toward a “huge crisis”.
On Thursday, he went further and accused the President for violating the constitution during a press conference.
“You have discharged me based on incorrect advises,” Ahmadzai said.
He also asked people not to expect the parliamentary and council ballots scheduled for next year from the National Unity Government.
This comes after five members of the seven-member IEC wrote to Ghani this week accusing Ahmadzai of incompetence and misuse of authority.
