President Ashraf Ghani on Monday said that a Loya Jirga (Grand Assembly) would be held in Kabul to consult with people on peace.
Addressing a ceremony on peace in the Presidential Palace, Ghani said the grand assembly or gathering of Afghan leaders and elders will be held in March this year. He said all of the political and influential figures will be invited to participate in the gathering.
He stressed that by consultations no side will lose anything and that alike an emergency Loya Jirga the people will select their own representatives.
The president also said that the political system and constitutional values, as well as the cost of war and peace, would be discussed in the due grand assembly to determine the people’s clear stand in the peace process.
Ghani, meanwhile, noted that the third meeting of the Kabul Process will be held next month and that it will focus on post-peace.
It comes days after former President Hamid Karzai who attended the recent two-day Moscow Talks has also called for convening Loya Jirga to resolve the ongoing crisis in the country.
He said that Loya Jirga – as the main decision-making address in emergency situations for Afghan people – is the best possible option on the given scenario.
