Polio vaccination campaign begins in five provinces of Afghanistan

The Ministry of Public Health has announced that nearly 2.4 million children under the age of five are expected to receive the polio vaccination during a four-day campaign commenced Saturday in five provinces of Afghanistan.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health Sharafat Zaman Amarkhil said that the campaign is in Kandahar, Helmand, Herat, Zabul and Uruzgan provinces.
Amarkhil stated that about 2.4 million children under the age of five are expected to receive the polio vaccination.
“This campaign will last for four days and nearly 2.4 million children under the age of five will receive the polio vaccination,” he said.
Meanwhile, some doctors say that polio is a viral disease that cannot be cured, and children who are infected with this disease will be paralyzed or die forever.
They believe the only way to prevent and eradicate polio is vaccination.
Afghanistan and Pakistan are two countries that have not succeeded in eradicating polio.
According to the statistics of health ministry, six cases of polio vaccination were recorded in the country last year, but no positive cases of polio have been reported this year.
