President Hamid Karzai has accused a Pakistan-based militant group, Lashkar-e-Taiba LeT, of attack on Indian consulate in Herat province, western Afghanistan.

President Hamid Karzai made the statement in an interview to “Headlines Today” after participating in the swearing-in ceremony of new Indian Prime Minister.

Before meeting with new Indian PM Narendra Modi, President Hamid Karzai told Headlines Today that based on intelligence information, the attack on Indian consulate was conducted by Lashkar-e-Taiba, a joint enemy of Afghanistan and Pakistan as mentioned by President Karzai.

“According to information given to us by a Western intelligence agency, the perpetrators of the Herat attack belonged to the LeT. The attack is condemned by the people of Afghanistan the same as condemned by the people of India.”

President Karzai added, “Herat (incident) was very clearly a terrorist strike on Indian and Afghan interests.”
