Operation Commences to Retake Mirza Olang from Taliban

Afghan security forces have launched a military operation to retake Mirza Olang valley where at least 52 civilians were massacred during an attack by the Taliban militants, officials said.

According to the sources, the air and ground operation were occurring against the insurgents on Friday morning.

About a week ago, the Taliban group  attacked and captured Mirza Olang village, situated in the Sayad district of Sar-e- Pul province. Dozens of civilians including women and children were killed during the attack.

President Ashraf Ghani condemned the attack and vowed to take “revenge”.

Afghanistan’s Independent Human Right Commission and watchdogs called the incident a “war crime and genocide”.

Officials say that nearly 500 families have been displaced from the area after attack by militants.
