The ninth annual ski tournament ‘the Afghan Ski Challenge’ were held in central Bamyan province on Friday, where at least 170 local and foreign skiers had participated.
The tournament were held in Koh-e-Baba in Bamiyan where 150 skiers from Maidan Wardak and Bamyan provinces represented Afghanistan. 20 skies from United States, Canada, and Australia had participated at the event.
Afghan skiers grabbed the first, second and third positions in the tournament.
This comes as Bamyan hosted the fifth round of girls ski competition on Thursday, where at least 12 skiers including one from Kabul had participated.
The tournament were held in “Ganbatak” hills of Bamyan province.
At the end of the event, Fatima Nazari, Freba Ahmadi, and Nazira got, first, second and third positions respectively.
The Afghan Ski Challenge is a backcountry ski race, which takes place every spring in Bamyan province. The event is organized by the Bamyan Ski Club and open to all.
