The National Directorate of Security (NDS) – Afghanistan’s intelligence agency has arrested seven terrorists loyal to Islamic State and discovered their hideout in eastern Logar province of Afghanistan.
According to a statement released by NDS, a former Taliban commander who has announced allegiance to Islamic State (IS) was arrested with six others during a joint special operations with Afghan National Police (ANP) and Afghan National Army (ANA) in Azra district of Logar.
The statement adds that a large number of weapons, military equipments and leaflets were also seized during the military operation.
“The terrorists were planning to perform terrorist attacks in crowded areas in Logar province using the weapons and equipments seized,” the statement read.
Logar is among the volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan where armed insurgents are actively operating in a number of its districts.
