More Than 25 Armed Oppositions Killed, Wounded in Faryab

At least 17 armed oppositions of the government were killed and 8 others were wounded in clashes between Afghan air forces and the Taliban group in Ghormach and Garziwan districts of Faryab province.

According to local officials, Afghan forces’ air attacks in Zakaria Khan and Abb Garmak areas of Ghormach district, 15 militants killed, seven others injured and 6 motorcycles were sized.

Press deputy of Shahen 209 corps, Nasratullah Jamshide said Afghan security forces killed 2 Taliban, injured one and destroyed one of their vehicles in Jarqala area of Garziwan district.

Taliban militants have ramped up their attacks on military bases across the country, challenging the thinly stretched security forces.

In the meantime, a similar clash between Afghan forces and Taliban inflicted casualties which left six Taliban killed and seven others wounded in Bargah Chamtal area of Balkh province.

The Afghan corps officials emphasized on continuation of operations in Ghormach, Sheren Tagab, Khawaja Sabz Posh and the insecure areas of Balkh province.

The Afghan officials noted that security forces are building a stronghold in Chamtal area of Balkh to prevent Taliban attacks.

In a recent report, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), a US oversight body, said 60 percent of Afghanistan’s districts are under government control, while the remaining 40 percent are held by the Taliban or other armed groups.
