Officials in Ministry of Agriculture irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) have held first National summit on empowering of Afghan female farmers in Agriculture sector in Kabul on Saturday, saying the object of the summit is to support female farmers.
Further the Minister of Agriculture irrigation and livestock Assadullah Zameer urged that several programs launched to empower Afghan female farmers in the past 2 years.
He said, “Supporting Afghan female farmers, providing ways of cooperation for further development will decrease poverty within the country.”
Meanwhile first Lady Rula Ghani insisted on growing of economy of Afghan female farmers saying they should become even self-sufficient through farming.
She said, “Raising the capacity of Afghan female farmers, so that they should be capable to sell their products within the National and International markets by launching healthy competition.”
Meanwhile chairwomen of Women affairs committee in Lower house of the parliament Fawzia Kofi said, “ Female farmers time is never counted as men while growing farms in Afghanistan, and their income has not been sufficient as men.”
Based on the estimation 70 percent of Afghan female are farmers at the entire country, but lack of Agricultural equipment, accessing no markets to sell the products are the main challenges of Afghan female farmers.
Female farmer Tahira said, “One of our major problems is that we can’t access markets and our products are sold with cheap price.”
Afghan female farmers insisted on having full package of supports to become enable to play key role on growing Agriculture and economy.
