Provincial governor spokesman Sayed Mahmoud Danish confirmed that General Gaseem Anwari was ambushed as he was returning from Ali Abad district of Kunduz after assessing the districts security condition.
Danish added that General Anwari wounded in the attack and he was taken to Camp Marmal in Mazar-i-Sharif for treatment.
According to the source no one else was injured in the attack and the identity or relation of the attackers is also unknown yet. But Taliban claimed they have ‘critically’ injured the provincial intelligence chief of Kunduz.
Kunduz is among the volatile provinces in north of Afghanistan witnessing growing Taliban insurgency.
Afghan security forces have not been capable yet to root out Taliban militants in a number of districts including Dasht-e-Archi and Qalay Zal which they are controlling for months.
Afghan Ministry of Interior announced in a statement that 14 Taliban fighters including the Taliban so-called district deputy governor killed in an operation in Imam Sahib district of Kunduz.
