Key Taliban Commander Killed in Nangarhar

A senior local commander of the Taliban has been killed during a special operation in eastern province of Nangarhar, local officials said Sunday.

The commander identified as Qari Daoud was killed during special operation of Afghan intelligence operatives in Surkhrod district of the province, the provincial media office said a statement.

The commander was deputy shadow district governor for Surkhrod district, the statement said.  

According to the statement, during the operation, two other Taliban members named as Helal and Awal Jan were arrested with AK-47.

Nangarhar has been one of the insecure provinces of Afghanistan in recent years, where the Islamic State and the Taliban militants have presence in its number of remote districts.
