Afghanistan’s independence is a result of solidarity and unity achieved by the nation, says outgoing President Hamid Karzai.
President Karzai said the statement during a special ceremony commemorating 95th Independence Day of Afghanistan held in the Ministry of Defense on Tuesday.
The ceremony was attended by President Karzai, both the Presidential candidates, ministers, parliamentarians, high profile government officials and activists.
“Afghanistan’s independence is a result of solidarity and unity of the people of this country,” President Karzai said during his speech.
Referring to the success of elections, President Karzai urged comprehensive efforts must be made for the prosperity of the country.
Also pointing to the recent rocket attack by Pakistan into the eastern borders of Afghanistan, President Karzai asked Islamabad to “stop further destruction of Afghanistan.”
Afghanistan’s Independence Day is being celebrated each year on 19 August to commemorate independence from Britain.
