Indonesian President Joko Widodo has assured the visiting delegation of Afghanistan High Peace Council (HPC) to support Afghan peace and reconciliation process.

Mr. Widodo has told Afghan delegation that his country will hold a meeting on Afghanistan peace which will be attended by religious scholars of Islamic countries.

In the meeting, the delegation of HPC has said that issue of Afghanistan is political and not military, adding that Jakarta could play its part to resolve the ongoing challenges in the country.

Some Afghan political analysts, however, believe the meeting will not be impactful as the Taliban considered to be ignored from the meeting. “In order to reach for substantial outcomes in peace process, directs talks should be held with the Taliban,” said Nazar Mohmmad Mutmayen, a political analyst.

The meeting comes as earlier, Indonesian Embassy in Kabul said in a statement that Afghan HPC delegation will visit Jakarta from November 19 up to 25, following the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia.

The purpose of the visit is to have exchange of views and share lessons learnt, and reinforce both countries’ experience dealing with peace process, reconciliation efforts and reintegration mechanism.

Indonesia could share its experiences dealing with armed conflict, such as in Aceh Province, and communal conflict such as in Ambon, Moluccas Province,” read a press release issued by the Indonesian embassy in Kabul, the statement said.
