India overtakes Afghan gov’t for encouraging Afghan medalists

Indian embassy to Kabul overtook the Afghan government in encouraging Afghan medalists from South Asian Games.

While one week passed since the return of Afghan medalists to home, the National Unity Government has not taken any measures to encourage the athletes but the Indian embassy with taking a party praised the achievements of Afghan medalists from South Asian Games.

“The Afghan athletes have shown that Sport is a bane to prejudices of ethnicity, language and religion and it can bring happiness to the tired people of Afghanistan,” said Indian ambassador to Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Afghan athletes have also complaint from National Unity Government and its neglect to their achievements.

Sport in Afghanistan – especially football, Taekwondo and cricket have been gaining popularity and growing at a phenomenal rate since the fall of the Taliban rule.

Individuals barred from taking part in sporting activity are now representing the country at the highest level and bringing home laurels unimagined a decade ago, with a refusal to look back and a glint in the eye.
