The Independent Election Commission (IEC)  has announced 7th of July 2018, the day of holding the parliamentary and provincial council elections.

IEC says the government has committed to cooperate in providing the security and budgets of the elections.

The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has welcomed the announcement of Parliamentary and district council elections date.

“The people of Afghanistan have made clear their desire for credible, inclusive elections,” said Tadamichi Yamamoto, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan.

“We welcome the IEC’s commitment to a realistic date for holding parliamentary and district council elections, and to an improved and transparent electoral process,” he said.

Lack of needed budget and providing security are the main challenges ahead of holding the upcoming elections in the next year.

IEC has started the technical works of parliamentary and provincial council elections and will hold the elections with utilizing a new technology.
