Addressing a gathering in eastern Laghman province on Sunday, Hekmatyar called some Afghan Media “vicious”.
“Close the mouth of vicious Media as they motivate terrorists.”
The Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC) in response to Hekmatyar said his comments won’t effect freedom of expression.
The Deputy Minister of MoIC, Mohammad Fazal Sancharaki said: “Those who are pessimistic about Media, their opinion will not have impact on media and none of government, or parties’ officials could limit the freedom of expression.”
The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) has also strongly reacted to Hekmatyar’s remarks.
“Mr. Hekmatyar should be fully aware of Afghanistan’s current situation, should have proper understanding of media and journalists then talk. His comments will not have any outcomes unless he reconsiders it,” President of AJSC, Najib Sharifi said.
It comes as Media have been criticized on number of occasions by many organizations, but the criticism has not effected their work.
