Officials in Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) said in the recent heavy snow falls 119 people have lost their life and 89 others were injured, 190 houses were destroyed completely, 23 others houses were damaged and amid about 400 animals were frozen to death.
The State Minister for Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs Wais Ahmad Barmak said, “119 people have lost their life in different provinces of Afghanistan, 89 others were injured, 190 resident houses were completely destroyed, 23 other houses were damaged and about 400 animals were frozen to death in the recent heavy snow falls at the entire country.”
Heavy snow falls have caused to block many highways, roads but officials in Ministry of Public Works Mahmood Balegh stated that highways roads and other passes will soon be reopened for the traffics.
He said,” I promise to clean most of the roads were covered with thick snows by tonight, and other roads where still snow falls will be cleaned by tomorrow noon.”
Meanwhile chief executive Abdullah Abdullah has praised the efforts made by the joint departments for saving of hundreds of life’s.
He said, “Officials from different departments have pushed through to save the life of dozens in Hajgak pass, Moqor district of Ghazni province and some other areas.”
The recent snow falls has been declared unprecedented in the past several years in the country, in some parts it snowed 40 percent and in some part it snowed 3 meters where several avalanches over flown causing killing of dozens residents.
