The Provincial Ulema Council chief of the northern Parwan province was killed and six students wounded in an explosion in northern Parwan province, officials said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred around 07:40 a.m. in religious school of Charikar city, the capital of Parwan province after explosives placed inside the Madrasa went off.
A security source told Ariana News that Mawlavi Abdul Rahim Shah Hanafi head of Parwan Ulema Council was killed and six students were injured in the incident.
President Ashraf Ghani denounced the blast in a tweet posted by his office and called it a “terrorist” act “inside a mosque”.
It was not immediately clear why the cleric was targeted and no group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
This comes as two days ago, Ghafoor Feroz, the Kandahar governor’s media adviser who was also a religious scholar gunned down by armed men riding a motorcycle in Kandahar city.
The Taliban announced the start of their spring offensive last month, threatening to step up attacks across the country.
