Suicide bombers hit a crowded mosque in west of Kabul late on Thursday, killing at least five people and injuring about a dozen.
The attack took place at around 8:45 pm in Al Zahra mosque in Dashte Barchi area, Kabul’s Police District 6, while worshipers gathered to perform prayers.
Police said the bombers blew themselves up in the kitchen of the mosque after police forces prevented them from entering the prayer hall.
Interior Ministry Spokesman, Najib Danish confirmed that four people including a policeman were killed and eight others including 4 policemen were injured in the incident.
The Deputy Minister of Interior, Murad Ali Murad said that they were aware of the threat but “it was not known which mosque and when it is going to be attacked.”
The Islamic State militant group claimed responsibility for the attack while, the Taliban denied any involvement in the assault.
