The cost of the project will be paid by Japan and the new tunnel would be 12 kilometres long from Doshakh area of Baghlan province to Awlang area of Parwan.
“In the first step, Advisory Committee on Feasibility Studies was considered on the top of options which managed by USAID and ministry of public works,” said minister Mahmud Baligh.
Japan ambassador to Kabul also said, “this project is very vital for Afghan people and can help in economic growth of the country.”
Chief Executive Officer, Abdullah Abdullah who was also present in the signing ceremony of the contract said, “This project is vital for all of Afghan people and have positive impacts in economic and social sectors.”
The Salang Pass is the major mountain pass connecting northern Afghanistan with Parwan Province, with onward connections to Kabul Province, southern Afghanistan, and to the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
