Clash Between Two Taliban Groups Kills 40 in Western Afghanistan
The spokesman of Herat governor, Farhad Jilani said, “Two Taliban groups under the leadership of Mullah Samad and Mullah Nangyalay the Taliban’s local commanders clashed at the mid Saturday night that 32 fighters of Mullah Samad and eight of Mullah Nangyalay’s fighters were killed.”
According to Jilani, dozens of the armed Taliban members have come to Shindand district from Helmand and Farah province and joined the clash to support the Mullah Samad.
The fighting, in one of the Taliban’s traditional southern strongholds, underlined the risk of fragmentation facing the Islamist movement since it announced that its founder, Mullah Omar, had died.
