Abdullah Visits Helmand to Assess Security Situation

helmandAfghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah on Tuesday travelled to the volatile Helmand province in southern Afghanistan to assess the security situation of the province.

Abdullah is leading a high-ranking governmental delegation including defense minister Abdullah Habibi, first deputy of the Afghan intelligence Adib Fahim and some other military officials.

The decision was made late on Monday during a video conference between the National Unity Government leaders with the local and military officials of the province while they were discussing the security situation of Sangin and Marja districts, the Presidential palace said in a statement.

Helmand is among extremely volatile provinces where militant groups usually launch major assaults to the take control of strategically important city of Lashkar Gah.
