Provincial governor spokesman Ataullah Khogyani told Ariana News that the militants surrendered to the Afghan intelligence agency after heavy military pressures applied over these groups.

According to Khogyani, the militant groups have handed over around 32 weapons as well.

“After we discovered the fact that our leaders are the agents of Pakistan’s ISI, we joined peace process and laid down our arms,” said Khanullah, a former member of the Daesh insurgent group who was involved in anti-government activities in Achin and Nazian districts of the province.

“I was fighting against the government with Kamran Kochi but I surrendered and laid down my weapon,” regretted Shawkat Khan, a former member of the Taliban group in Shinwar district of Nangarhar.

The insurgent groups have not made a comment about the report yet.

This comes after last week 54 Taliban militants joined peace process in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

“These individuals were involved in terror activities. After they discovered the facts with the efforts of the Afghan intelligence agency, they joined peace process,” said Ataullah Khogyani, provincial governor spokesman.

According to Khogyani, the group has handed over around 54 light and heavy weapons as well.

These individuals were involved in anti-government activities in Bati-Kot, Achin, Rodat, Momand Dara and Khogyani districts, the official added.

“We joined with Taliban and carried out a lot of destructive actions,” said Nabi Toofan, a former Taliban commander,” We did bad for the will of Pakistan.”

“After Ulama issued a Fatwa, we surrendered to the Directorate of Security,” said Muhammad Islam, another commander of the group.

The Taliban militant group has not made a comment about the report yet.

Bomb Blast Hits Jalalabad City of Nangarhar Thu, 20 Sep 2018 05:51:53 +0000 At least five people wounded in an explosion in eastern Jalalabad City of Nangarhar province, officials said Thursday.

Provincial governor spokesman Attaullah Khogyani said the blast took place early this morning in police district four of the City.

Eyewitnesses said the blast occurred inside a shop and as a result five people were injured.

The health condition of two victims reported as critical.

No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the incident.

Nangarhar is among the volatile provinces in east of Afghanistan where both Taliban and Daesh insurgent groups have a presence.

At least 12 killed and 20 wounded after a suicide bomber detonated himself on Sunday afternoon in Jalalabad City of Nangarhar province, an official said.

Provincial governor spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani said the blast occurred today afternoon in Pashtunistan square near a business market.

Reports suggest that the suicide bomber has detonated himself among Sikh minority in the province as they were going to welcome President Ashraf Ghani who is there to inaugurate a hospital.

No group has claimed responsibility of the attack so far.

Both Taliban and the Islamic State (IS) group also known as Daesh are actively operating in eastern Nangarhar province and usually carrying out attacks against government forces.

Turkish Citizen Among 3 Daesh Members Arrested in Nangarhar Tue, 26 Jun 2018 13:01:23 +0000 Afghan security forces have arrested three Daesh militants including a Turkish national in Nazian district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said Tuesday.

“We have arrested three senior Daesh members including a Turkish citizen named Mohammad,” provincial police chief Ghulam Sanai Stanekzai said. “The detained individuals were handed over to the National Directorate of Security for further investigations.”

In addition, the police official said that Afghan and foreign forces have cleared ten villages in Haska Meyna district of Nangarhar during a joint military operation.

“We have established strong checkpoints in the area,” he said. “Our military operation is still ongoing, the Daesh and other terrorist groups are not able to resist.”

Afghan Commandos Continue Offensives against Daesh in Nangarhar: RS Sat, 23 Jun 2018 06:13:22 +0000 Afghan Commandos have assembled its largest combined special operations mission to eradicate Islamic State (IS) militants also known as Daesh from villages in Nangarhar province, NATO’s Resolute Support mission said in a statement on Friday.

“The largest contingent of Afghan commandos ever assembled for a joint special operations mission is leading the fight to remove ISIS-K from southern Nangarhar,” the statement said. “Commandos have killed almost 160 ISIS-K to-date, and have destroyed cave entrances, tunnels and structures, reducing ISIS-K safe havens.”

Since the offensive began in late May, Afghan commandos advised by U.S. Special Forces, have targeted Daesh in Deh Bala district of Nangarhar province.

The statement added that in the past six months, Daesh has twice been uprooted from its declared caliphates in Kot and Achin districts by Afghan Special Forces.

Gunmen Kill Ghani Khail District Governor In Nangarhar Mon, 18 Jun 2018 09:38:56 +0000 Acting governor of Ghani Khail district in Nangarhar province was killed by gunmen today morning, local officials said.

Provincial governor spokesman Ataullah Khogyani said that the incident took place in Marko area of the district at around 10am local time.

He added that a bodyguard of the official was also killed in the attack.

According to Mr. Khogyani, the attackers have experienced casualties during the clashes as well but the exact number was unknown.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Nine People Mistakenly Killed in Nangarhar Raid: Officials Tue, 29 May 2018 13:55:41 +0000 Afghan forces have killed nine people and injured eight others including a child and a women during a military operation in eastern Nangarhar province, officials confirmed Tuesday.

According to officials, the incident has taken place by mistake in Chino village in Dawlatziyo area of Chaparhar district late on Monday night as Afghan forces were conducting an operation against the Islamic State militants.

Provincial governor Hayatullah Hayat said the incident has happened due to a misunderstanding between Afghan forces and local police in the area.

“I’m quite sure that the incident has taken place due to a misunderstanding. The main target of the Afghan forces were Daesh insurgents and other anti-government elements in the area. Unfortunately, nine people including a senior local police commander and a number of his family members have been killed during the operation,” Hayat said.

Eyewitnesses say a local police commander with two of his sons and a number of relatives of the Senate Chairman Fazel Hadi Muslimyar are among those killed in the operation.

Reports suggest that Afghan forces have raided a house where gunfire had been coming from.

The government has appointed a high level delegation to conduct an investigation into the incident.

Nangarhar Governor Gulab Mangal Resigns Sun, 13 May 2018 12:15:09 +0000 Nangarhar provincial governor Mohammad Gulab Mangal has resigned from his position, the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) confirmed Sunday.

According to a statement released by the IDLG, Mr. Mangal has resigned from his position due to some personnel issues and the organization has officially received his resignation letter.

Immediately, there was no further details about the reason of his resignation.

Mr. Mangal served as minister of border and tribal affairs in the National Unity Government (NUG) before becoming the provincial governor of Nangahar.

Mangal is not the first governor to step down from his post. In the past, three other governors of Nangarhar including Salim Kunduzi, Attaullah Ludin and Gul Agha Sherzai stepped down from their posts over what they called interference in their work.

Reports regarding the resignation of Mr. Mangal released hours after a coordinated attack was launched on Nangarhar Customs Department in Jalalabad city, killing at least five people and injuring 33 others.

A bomb blast has reportedly targeted a voter registration center in the 4th Police District of Jalalabad, the capital city of the eastern Nangarhar province.

The voter registration center was established in a mosque in the area where many residential houses also located in.

“One policeman and seven civilians were wounded in the incident”, spokesperson of Nangarhar governor, Attaullah Khogyani told Ariana News.

According to the local official, the explosives had been placed in a Zarang type motorcycle and the vehicle exploded through a remote control instrument in the area.

He further noted that all the wounded people have already been transferred to the provincial hospital in Jalalabad City.

Mortar Round Explosion Kills Three Members of One Family Sun, 29 Apr 2018 06:02:46 +0000

Three members of one family were killed and six others wounded after a mortar round exploded inside their house in the eastern Nangarhar province.

The incident reportedly took place around 7:00 AM, this morning in Chamtala area of Surkh Rod district of the province.

Mother and two children were among the dead people while all six wounded were children of the same family.

According to spokesperson of Nangarhar governor Attaullah Khogyani, the mortar round was dropped beside the house yesterday when Afghan forces and the Taliban engaged in a battle in the area.

The unexploded mortar shell was taken by the children to home today’s morning and it exploded inside the house.

Six Members of One Family Killed in Nangarhar Wed, 11 Apr 2018 08:47:43 +0000

Four brothers have reportedly killed their uncle, his wife and four sons of them over an old family dispute during the night in the eastern Nangarhar province, local authorities confirmed.

According to the statement issued by Nangarhar’s media office, all the murderers could manage to escape the area after the incident.

However, later local officials confirmed to media that a man, Zarif, was arrested in connection to the incident by local police forces.

Zarif has reportedly confessed his crime and said that it was committed due to some personal disputes.

“The incident took place last night in Naghlo village of Behsood district on the house of a man named Salaam,” the statement noted.

Two people including a child were also injured in the incident which have been taken to hospital for the treatment.

This is the second deadly incident within two days in Nangarhar province.

Man Arrested Over Killing Wife, Parents in Nangarhar Mon, 09 Apr 2018 06:25:10 +0000 A man was arrested over killing his wife and parents in the 5th district of Jalalabad city, capital of Nangarhar province, said local authorities.

According to police, the motive behind the incident was family disputes and it took place around 2:00 AM this morning, Monday, April 09.

The murderer named Noor Mohammad and acknowledged to police that he has shot dead his wife, mother and father with a pistol over family disputes.

Afghanistan has witnessed an increasing number of reports in domestic violence, particularly violence against women in recent years. The women and girls have been reportedly most victims of these violence.

Two Daesh Militants Killed, One Taliban Member Arrested in Nangarhar Thu, 05 Apr 2018 09:10:58 +0000

Two Daesh militants have been killed and a member of the Taliban group has been arrested in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

On Thursday, in a statement, the provincial governor media office said that yesterday two Daesh fighters were killed during an operation by the Afghan forces in Chaparhar district of the province.

The statement added that an explosives-packed vehicle which was prepared by Daesh terrorist group to target an important government building in Jalalabad City of the province was also destroyed in the military operation.

In addition, a member of the Taliban group identified as Shahidullah also known as Ameen was arrested in the locality of Behsud district, said a separate statement.

The detained Taliban member planned to assassinate government employees in the area.

According to the statement, the individual has confessed his involvement in a number of destructive and terrorist activities under the leadership of a Taliban commander named Hamza.

The anti-government insurgent groups have not made a comment about the reports yet.

11 Killed, Wounded in Jalalabad Explosion Mon, 19 Mar 2018 10:24:08 +0000 At least three people have been confirmed dead and eight others wounded as the result of an explosion that happened today near a gathering of Gulbudin Hekmatayr in the eastern Nangarhar province.

Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman of Nangarhar governor told Ariana News that the incident took place near a gathering of Hekmatyar when the people were living the area.

The gathering was attended by Mr. Hekmatyar and some other high ranking local officials.

The incident took place around 1:00 PM in front of an Afghan – Turk high in 1th Police District of Jalalabad City, Nangarhar’s capital city.

Approximately an hour later another explosion which was also carried out by an explosive-laden motorcycle reported from Shindand district of the western Herat province.

Jilani Farhad, spokesman of Herat governor said that at least one people was killed and seven others wounded in the incident which took place around 2:00 PM in the center of Shindand district.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

12 ISIS Terrorists Killed in Eastern Afghanistan Sat, 17 Mar 2018 05:13:10 +0000

12 terrorists affiliated with the terror group, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria also known as Daesh, were killed  and four others wounded as the result of airstrikes and internal conflict between the militants.

The militants of Islamic State were killed and wounded yesterday, March 16, in Haskamina and Naziyan districts of the eastern Nangarhar pr0vince, the statement issued by the provincial media office stated.

According to the statement, six militants of the terror group were killed and two others wounded when their hideouts were struck by airstrikes in Gorgori area of Haskamina district.

Six Daesh militants were also killed and two others wounded as the result of internal clashes triggered between the militants in Naziyan district, it further noted.

While there have been many reports of clashes between IS and Taliban from across the country including Nangarhar but this is the first report of an internal clash between IS terrorists in the province.

Children, Women Among Seven Civilians Killed in Nangarhar Mon, 12 Mar 2018 04:57:57 +0000

Seven civilians including children and women were killed and two others wounded in a mortar attack in the eastern Nangarhar province, said local authorities.

Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman of Nangarhar governor told Ariana News that the civilians were dead and wounded as the result of a mortar attack by the Taliban militants.

He said that the incident took place at around 8:30 PM, last night, after their riding vehicle was hit by the mortar attack in Batikot district of Nangarhar.

According to Nangarhar media office a wounded victim of the attack was in critical condition.

It’s said that the vehicle which was carrying members of a family came under attack when they were heading toward another neighboring village to participate in a funeral ceremony.

The Taliban militant group has yet to comment regarding the incident.

Pakistanis Among Over 100 Terrorists Arrested in Nangarhar Tue, 06 Mar 2018 10:00:09 +0000

105 terrorists including two Pakistani citizens and two suicide bombers have been arrested during 32 joint operations conducted by Afghan security forces within last five weeks, said Abdulrahman Rahimi, police chief of Nangarhar province.

The local official also said that 141 militants were killed and 10 others wounded in these operations.

According to him, a large amount of explosives consist of suicide vests, bomb making tools munitions of the militants was also seized by Afghan security forces.

As he stated, the operations were conducted over the course of past five weeks in Achin, Batikot, Mohmand Dara, Lalpoor, Chaparhar, Khogyani and Pachiragam districts of the eastern Nangarhar province.

The provincial police chief further noted that a weapons depot of Islamic State or Daesh terror group was also discovered in Kot district where a huge amount of explosives and munitions belonging to the group was stored in.

He further added that 164 people were also arrested for having hand in 122 criminal cases across the province.

Fuel Tanker Fire Leaves Fatalities, Financial Losses in Nangarhar Tue, 06 Mar 2018 05:17:06 +0000

Two people were dead, two others severely injured and dozens of shops have been destroyed after a fuel tanker caught fire on Turkham-Jalalabad highway in the eastern Nangarhar province, said local authorities.

“The incident took place earlier this morning, around 6:30 AM, in Doo Saraka area of Behsod district along the Turkham-Jalalabad highway”, said Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman of Nangarhar governor.

According to him, the fuel tanker caught fire after explosion of a magnetic bomb which was attached to the vehicle.

He further noted that nearly 30 shops were burned, inflecting huge financial losses to the local residents, after the fire spilled over to neighboring shops.

Later fire fighting authorities of Nangarhar province reported that the fire was restrained at around 7:00 AM local time.

‘Save the Children’ Attack Ended As Five Attackers Killed Wed, 24 Jan 2018 05:15:17 +0000

The attack on ‘Save The Children’ Office in Jalalabad City of eastern Nangarhar province was ended after all five attackers were killed, officials confirmed Wednesday. 

At least six people were killed and more than 24 were wounded after gunmen stormed the building of the aid agency in the city, said the Provincial Governor’s Spokesman Attaullah Khogyani. 

The attack began at 09:10 am local time when four assailants reportedly fired a rocket propelled grenade from a car outside the British charity’s compound, blasted their way into Save the Children’s office and then clashed with security forces for about several hours.

According to local officials,  the aid agency’s 46 employees including 12 women were rescued. 

The Taliban denied their involvement; but Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack. 

Hours after the attack, Save the Children announced its operations have been temporarily suspended and all its offices have been closed in Afghanistan. 

“In response to this, all of our programmes across Afghanistan have been temporarily suspended and our offices are closed,” a spokesman said in an emailed statement. “We remain committed to resuming our operations and lifesaving work as quickly as possible, as soon as we can be assured that it is safe to do so.”

The attack comes days after Taliban militants attacked the Hotel Intercontinental in the capital Kabul, which killed and wounded dozens including foreigners.
