At least three civilians were wounded in a motorbike bombing in southern Kandahar province, local officials said.

According to the officials, the explosion has taken place at Ganj Bazar area of Spinboldak district of the province early on Tuesday morning.

A suicide bomber detonated his explosive-loaded motorbike at the area in which three civilians were wounded, the officials added.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

At least 19 Taliban insurgents were killed and 38 others wounded in clashes with Afghan security forces in Khakrez district of southern Kandahar province, local officials said.

Nazar Ali, the district police chief told Ariana News that the clash broke out after a large number of militants attacked security outpost at Shirgha area of the district on Friday night.

He said, as a result, six militants were killed and eight others wounded in the incident.

Meanwhile, six Afghan security forces were also killed and four others injured in clashes, Ali added.

In a separate incident, Taliban fighters stormed Maroof district of Kandahar on Friday night, killing at least 13 soldiers and wounding 30 others, a source said.

However, the provincial police Tadeen Khan said that at the moment foreign forces are conducting air strikes at the district.

At least 25 insurgents have been killed so far, Khan added.

The Taliban militant group has not made a comment about the incident yet.

At least 17 Taliban militants were killed and 14 others wounded in clashes with Afghan security forces in Maiwand district of Kandahar province, local officials said on Friday.

Haji Lala, district governor of Maiwand told Ariana News that clashes broke out after a large group of Taliban attacked five security outposts in the district on Thursday night.

Lala said, as a result, six Afghan security forces were killed and four others were injured.

Meanwhile, provincial police chief Tadeen Khan said that 17 militants have been killed and 14 others wounded in the incident.

Khan confirmed that six police were killed and only a soldier was injured during the clashes.

The Taliban militant group yet to make a comment about the incident.

Following his arrival to the province, President Ghani officially renamed Kandahar Airport after Ahmad Shah Baba.

He also inaugurated the newly-constructed Kandahar Airport Road and named it after later General Abdul Raziq who was assassinated by a Taliban infiltrator last year.

According to the presidential palace, the road has been built at a cost of 2.8 billion Afghanis which is funded by the government.

In addition, Ghani inaugurated Kandahar second phase of the solar power plant and put it into operation.

The plant has been built at a cost of $39 million and has the capacity to generate 30MW of power.

Besides inaugurating the public welfare projects, President Ghani is set to meet with elders, Ulama, youth, and women of Kandahar.

The incident happened after Taliban militants detonated four explosives-packed armored vehicles in the district.

Provincial Police Chief of Kandahar Tadeen Khan confirmed the attack and said the attack was carried out by four explosive-packed Humvees.

Tadeen Khan added that as a result 11 soldiers were killed and 27 others wounded.

Kandahar police chief said that four suicide bombers and 17 Taliban fighters were also killed in the attack.

He further said that all of the victims have been taken to the capital of the province and fresh troops have been deployed to the district.

Meanwhile, a reliable source told Ariana News that a major part of the district governor’s office has been damaged as a result of the attacks and it has left heavy casualties to security forces.

At the same time, Hashim Durrani, the provincial head of IEC in Kandahar said that eight staff member of the commission who were responsible for the voters registration process in the district have been killed in the attack.

Taliban claims their militants have overrun the district after attacking the district center including the police headquarter.

The insurgent group has intensified their attacks against Afghan forces as the U.S. and Taliban negotiators are holding talks in Qatar to end the ongoing war in Afghanistan.

The incident took place when a roadside bomb hit their vehicle in Dand district of the province.

Provincial governor spokesman Aziz Ahmad Azizi said, as a result, six civilians including two women and two children lost their lives.

All the victims were members of a family.

He blamed the Taliban insurgent group for the explosion.

Taliban has not made a comment about the report yet.

On June 9, the UN mission in Afghanistan said it “remains troubled that civilians are being killed in high numbers” in the Afghan conflict, and urged all warring parties to protect civilians from harm.

“We want a peace agreement, we have gathered here for peace and we are calling for a ceasefire,” said Abdul Saboor, a peace activist.

“The people of Loy Kandahar is calling on the Taliban and the Afghan government to stop their military operations under the name of Khalid and Al-Fath,” said Mohammad Ashraf, another peace activist.

Tribal elders, youths, university, and high school students, and other residents of Kandahar province took part in this rally.

“I’m calling on the two sides to hear the voice of the people and bring peace and stability to this country,” said Abdul Hussain, one of the peace marchers.

“We want peace. We don’t want war. We are sick and tired of war. We have lost everything in the war including the lives of our loved ones,” said Abdul Ahmad, another peace marcher.

This comes as a meeting between the Taliban and Afghan politicians which was set to begin on Friday in Doha postponed due to disagreements over participants.

According to a statement released by the National Directorate of Security (NDS), the militants were plotting to carry out coordinated suicide attacks in Kandahar city.

The group was active in Shah Wali Kot, Zhari, and Maiwand districts as well as in Kandahar city, the statement said.

The group was involved in destructive and terror activities such as targeting security outposts and security forces supply convoys in the province, the statement added.

The statement further said that two members of the insurgent group were ready to carry out suicide attacks in Aino Mina township of Kandahar city.

NDS says the suicide attackers were trained in Peshawar city of Pakistan.

The Taliban insurgent group has not made a comment about the report yet.

Provincial governor spokesman Aziz Ahmad Azizi said the incident happened last night in Maiwand district as a result of the explosives planted in a tunnel below the military base.

Azizi confirmed that casualties have been sustained to Afghan forces but said the exact number was unknown.

Meanwhile, a security source who wished not to be named told Ariana News that the base was sheltering 30 soldiers. He added that five soldiers were killed and others were injured.

A spokesman for the Taliban militant group claimed that 35 soldiers have been killed and five others were wounded in their attack.

An Afghan army helicopter has been crashed in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan, officials confirmed Saturday.

The Spokesman for the Defense Ministry, Ghafoor Ahmad Javid said that two soldiers were killed and two others wounded in the incident.

Taliban claim that the helicopter was shot down by the group’s fighters.

However, provincial police chief Tadeen Khan says the helicopter crashed in Maruf district due to technical problems.

In his first public interview on Wednesday, Khan emphasized that he will follow the way of late Gen. Raziq and will not allow any country including Pakistan, Iran, and Russia to interfere in Afghanistan and Kandahar affairs.

“I’m warning to the slaves of Punjab that I will reach you in anywhere God willing. Your future general will regret your action. Even if you are supported by Punjab, Iran or Russia, we will not let you,” Khan said.

The new Police Chief of Kandahar also promised to be more severe against the Taliban.

“Our pathway against Punjab is the same as [General Raziq]. I promise to the people of Kandahar and Afghanistan that I’m against thieves, ISI, Iran and Russia mercenaries,” he added.

Brother of slain Razeq further said that investigations are underway on the assassination of former Kandahar police chief.

Last month, General Razeq, the most influential man in the south, shot dead by an insider at the end of a meeting with the top U.S. general in Afghanistan. Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to the local officials, the incident took place at around 9 am in Malang Kariz area of Maiwand district.

Zia Durrani, spokesman for the provincial police chief said the deminers were shot dead by militants while they were clearing the path for the TAPI gas pipeline project.

He added that the sixth worker is missing and his fate is unknown.

The official claimed that the de-miners had told security officials no threat was posing against them from the Taliban insurgent group and there was no need for security measures.

Security officials have blamed Taliban for the shooting incident, adding their investigations are underway.

The Taliban militant group have not claimed responsibility for the attack.

Taliban fighters attacked border police checkpoints in Ghorak and Rigestan districts of southern Kandahar province last night, an official said.

Provincial governor spokesman Zia Durrani told Ariana News that at least 30 Taliban militants were killed and 45 others wounded when Afghan forces responded to the militant’s attack.

He also confirmed that the clashes left five border police dead and seven others wounded.

According to Mr. Durrani, there was no report of damage to the inhabitants of the areas due to the clashes.

The Taliban insurgent group has not made a comment about the report yet.

“Five Romanian soldiers and two policemen wounded in the car bomb attack,” Samim Khapalwak, spokesperson of Kandahar governor told Ariana News.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Kandahar has witnessed a sharp increase in deadly attacks by the militants in recent months where Afghan security forces and their international allies have also doubled counter-attacks against the militant.

An Afghan TV journalist was shot dead by unknown gunmen in PD9 of southern Kandahar City on Wednesday morning, local officials confirmed.

Abdul Manan Arghand, 31, who reported for Kabul News television network was killed by unknown motorcyclists while he was going to a market with his friends.

The assailants have successfully escaped from the area.

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Afghanistan (UNAMA) in an online post condemned the attack and urged Afghan authorities to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

In 2017, the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) said that 20 journalist and media workers were killed in Afghanistan and called it the “bloodiest” year for journalists in the war-torn country.

No group has claimed responsibility for the assassination yet.

Janan, commander of Afghan border police forces in Spinboldak district of the Southern Kandahar province was killed this morning as the result of a magnetic bomb blast, local official said.

“Three security men of the police commander were also injured in the incident,” Zia Durani, spokesperson of Kandahar Police Chief told Ariana News.

Spinboldak laying in Kandahar and bordering with Pakistan is a restive district of the province where the Taliban have occasionally launched deadly attacks against Afghan security forces.

Particularly, magnetic bomb have been used widely in recent years by the Taliban to target Afghan security and government officials.

The local security official further noted that 10 bases of the militants were targeted and destroyed during the operation.

As the Taliban militants have recently increased their activities and attacks in the southern Kandahar province, Afghan forces have also intensified their measures against the militants.

Meanwhile, Kandahar’s local officials also confirmed today that at least two soldiers of Afghan National Army (ANA) were sustained injuries after a mortar blast targeted their patrolling vehicle in Kandahar city.

Seven people were confirmed dead and 22 others wounded after a 303 commuter bus collided with a car on Kabul-kandahar in Maiwand district of Kandahar, said local authorities.

Qudratullah Khoshbakht, spokesman of Kandahar governor told Ariana News that the traffic incident took place around noon, today, in an area along the highway, belonging to Maiwand district.

He added that the wounded people have already been transferred to hospital in Kandahar City.

Such deadly incidents have often caused many casualties across the highway which mostly take place due to the recklessness of drivers and destroyed roads in the country.

The U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan, John R. Bass, had a two-day visit to southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan aimed at meeting with local officials and military leaders based there, the U.S. Embassy said in a statement Monday.

“The representatives of Kandahar with whom I met showed me great hospitality, and I appreciated the opportunity to meet with our partners to discuss our joint efforts to build a more stable and peaceful Afghanistan,” the statement quoted ambassador Bass as saying  “I look forward to visiting provinces throughout Afghanistan in addition to continuing our important work in Kabul.”

During the visit, Ambassador Bass has met with Kandahar Provincial Governor Zalmai Weesa, provincial council members, and civil society representatives.

He has also consulted with Train, Advise, Assist Command – South (TAAC-S) Commander Brigadier General John Lathrop and other senior military leaders to review training that the United States and other Resolute Support nations are providing to the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces to further improve their effectiveness.

The United States supports a number of economic and development projects in Kandahar aimed at empowering civil society, encouraging business development, and building security.

 The U.S.-Afghan Provincial Development Strategy promotes economic growth through anti-corruption, counter-narcotics, agriculture, health, education, and good governance programs.
