AUAF Resumes Its Operations in Kabul after Kidnappings

AUAFThe American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) based in Kabul announced that it has resumed its “normal operations” after a two-day closure on Wednesday.

Two university lecturers of the university abducted in Kabul on the evening of Sunday at gunpoint by unidentified gunmen on Darulaman Road.

The identity of the abducted professors were unknown, but it was revealed today in a statement released by the AUAF.

But later the university urged media outlets to refrain from sharing their names as their families have requested so.

The abducted American and Australian professors, taught English language upper level courses, TOEFL preparation, and English languages special classes at the English Language Center of the Professional Development Institute of the University since 2014, and July 2016 respectively, the statement said.

It also said that after the incident the university decided to suspend its operations in Kabul to review the security situation and to put in place precautionary measures.

According to the statement the university is in close contact with the Afghan security agencies as well as the relevant agencies to ensure their immediate and safe return.

No group has yet claimed the responsibility of the incident yet.
