Appeal Court Sentences Former Pashtany Bank Chief to 5 Years in Jail

Former Head of government-owned Pashtany Bank, Hayatullah Dayani has been sentenced to five years in jail for embezzling 50 million Afghanis and misuse of authority, following an appeal court’s decision.

Five other bank officials – including the Head of the bank’s Finance Department, Nasir Ahmad, Manager of bank’s Credit Department, Abdul Hadi and three members of the bank’s Credit Department have been sentenced to six years and one month in jail for their involvement.

This comes years after a primary court sentenced Hayatullah Dayani to 20 years in prison for embezzling millions of dollars. He was reportedly accused of involvement in the theft of more than $26 million from 2006 to 2008.
