Afghan security forces have seized control of Musa Qala District of Helmand province last night, security officials said.
Provincial governor spokesman Omar Zwak said on Saturday that Afghan security forces have cleared the district without any resistance.
Taliban militants overrun the district about a month ago and Afghan forces evacuated the district after the government has failed to deploy reinforcements.
Zwak added,” currently, the clearance operations continues though Afghan security forces have captured the district key areas including the district office”.
Taliban group has not made a comment yet.
Helmand is among the volatile districts in southern Afghanistan where anti-government insurgents are actively operating in a number of its districts including Nawzad, Sangin and Musa Qala districts.
