Afghanistan volleyball team beats Maldives in Central Asian championship

Afghanistan's national volleyball team defeated Maldives 3-0 on Sunday in the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Championship in Tashkent.

This was the first victory for Afghanistan, which has played three matches in the tournament so far.

Their two losses came against Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Afghanistan will next face Tajikistan on Tuesday.

Afghanistan A defeated Sri Lanka A by 11 runs in a thrilling match as they opened their campaign in Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Oman on Friday.

Sent to bat first by Sri Lankans who won the toss, Afghanistan A posted 166-7 with major contributions from the opening pair Sediq Atal (83)and Zubaid Akbari (57).

Atal’s knock included seven sixes and he made 83 off 46 balls. He was named player of the match.

Sri Lanka A had a good start in their chase but could not make it to the end against some excellent bowling by the Afghans. They were bowled out for 155.

Faridoon Dawoodzai picked up three wickets while Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar and Bilal Sami got two each.

Afghanistan A will face Bangladesh A on Sunday in their second match of the Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024.

Afghanistan’s U-17 football team leaves for Cambodia

Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) said Wednesday the under-17 football team left for Cambodia earlier in the day to participate in the U-17 Asian Cup 2025 Qualifiers.

AFF said in a post on Facebook that Afghanistan’s under-17 football team is in group B and will face Bangladesh, Cambodia, Philippines and Macau.

The matches are scheduled to be hosted by Cambodia from October 19 to 27.

Darwish Rasooli slammed a century as Afghanistan A defeated Oman by 44 runs in their second match of the tri-nation series in Oman on Monday.

Sent to bat first by Oman who won the toss, Afghanistan A posted 211-3, with captain Darwish Rasooli making 109 off 57 balls, including 9 sixes and 5 fours. Karim Janat followed with 60 off 29 balls.

Chasing the 212-run target, Oman made 167.

This is Afghanistan A's second consecutive victory in the tri-nation series. They defeated Hong Kong by 7 wickets in their first match on Sunday.
