Afghanistan imports $ 50 million of dairy annually

Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry declared that Afghanistan imports $ 50 million of dairy every year; citing if the domestic industries supported, import of dairy would have a remarkable reduce.

Currently, according to statistics 15 dairy production company operate in Afghanistan which provides 30 % needs of the residents.

Head of Dairy Union, Jawhar Hussaini says that Pakistan is among countries which export the most dairy to Afghanistan.

“If the government supports domestic products, including the dairy domestic products will increase,” Hussaini said.

Lutfullah Rashid, spokesman of the agriculture ministry also emphasized that they have a extend program to encourage the domestic products and producers.

Currently, small dairy companies in Kabul, Kandahar, Nangarhar and some other parts of the country operate but they complain over lack of government support.
