Afghanistan Begins Tri-Nation ‘A’ Series With Loss to India

Afghanistan ‘A’ suffered a seven-wicket loss to India ‘A’ in their first match of tri-series in South Africa on Friday.

Batting first, Afghanistan ‘A’ were bowled out for 149 inside 41 overs.  Axar Patel for India ‘A’ picked up three for 33 in six overs, followed by Al-rounder Vijay Shankar, who claimed three for 24 in seven overs.

Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was the only bowler to complete his full quota of overs claiming two for 42 in the process.

Low order batsman Sharafuddin Ashraf (39) was the top scorer for Afghanistan, followed by Rahmat Shah (35) and Najibullah Zadran (30).

In reply, India ‘A’ cruised to the target in 150 for 3 in 30.4 overs.

Opening the innings, Karun Nair scored a positive knock, 57 off 83 balls while skipper Manish Pandey chipped in with unbeaten 41 off 52 balls. The duo added 67 runs for the third wicket Shreyas Iyer (20) and Sanju Samson (10) were dismissed cheaply.

Young Rishabh Pant scored a quick fire unbeaten 17 off 10 deliveries with three boundaries to finish the match off with ease.

India opened their account with that win after loosing to hosts South Africa ‘A’ in first match of the series. 

 Afghanistan ‘A’ is scheduled to face South Africa in their second match on Sunday.
