The U.S. military says an American soldier was killed and several other U.S. and Afghan forces were injured while battling Daesh militants in eastern Afghanistan.

According to a statement by the U.S. military, the Afghan and U.S. forces suffered casualties during a “partnered operation” on Wednesday.

The statement does not specify how many forces were wounded or where the attack occurred. But it said the operation aimed at “further reducing” Daesh presence in Afghanistan.

The Afghan and U.S. forces have long been involved in anti-Daesh operations in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province.
