Afghan Special Forces Retake Jani Khel District from Taliban

Afghan Special Forces recaptured Jani Khel district of southeastern Paktia province from Taliban militants, local officials confirmed Friday.

Provincial governor spokesman Abdullah Hasrat told Ariana News the Afghan commandos took control of the district around 2am last night.

“Clearance operation is underway in remote areas of the district,” Hasrat added.

Gen. Raz Mohammad Mandozay, the commander of border police brigade also confirmed that Afghan forces have driven the Taliban out of the contested district.

“The district is under the control of Afghan forces and the clearance operation will end in an hour,” Mandozay said.

This comes as the district has changed hands at least three times over the past one month.
