Afghan Forces Push Back Taliban Attack in Paktika

Afghan security forces on Sunday night pushed back a Taliban attack on police checkpoints located on the main road between Paktia and Paktika provinces, local security officials said.

Paktika police chief spokesman Shah Mohammad Aryan told Ariana News that Taliban insurgents planned to deteriorate the security situation of Mata Khan district by attacking police checkpoints but they faced with police resistance.

He added that Afghan forces have killed six Taliban fighters and injured five others.

Three policemen were also killed and three others wounded in the fighting, he said.

Government forces have intensified a clearance operation in the area in which a roadside bomb was also defused, a security official further said.

Meanwhile, the Taliban spokesman in a statement claimed that it has overrun a police checkpoint, killing nine public uprising forces in Mata Khan district of Paktika.
