Afghan forces foil plots to attack Muharram gatherings

Afghan security forces have thwarted all terror plots of insurgent groups, particularly Islamic State’s (IS) that aimed to perform attacks in the day of Ashura, the martyrdom day of Imam Hussain, Kabul police chief claimed on Saturday.
Ashura ceremony was held safely in Afghanistan this year with tight security measures.
Abdul Rahman Rahimi, Kabul Police Chief on Saturday said,” we foiled all plots of Daesh and other enemies of Afghanistan’s peace and stability which aimed to perform suicide bombing and offensive attacks during this day”.
During the commemoration ceremony coveys of mourners marched in Kabul streets.
Afghan officials claim they have arrested a number of terrorists who planned to perform terror attacks during the day.
In 2011, a suicide bomb struck a shrine packed with worshippers in Kabul which killed at least 54 people and injured more than 160 others.
