Abdullah Apologizes for NUG Failure in Promoting Women’s Participation

Afghanistan Chief Executive, Abdullah Abdullah, has apologized for the failure of the National Unity Government (NUG) in promoting women’s participation and presence in governmental institutions.

Speaking in a conference held for women’s empowerment, he accepted that the government has lost many opportunities for improving the country’s situation and further noted that “if we can’t use this opportunity, it will be lost as well”.

Afghan CEO expressed women’s role in improving the country’s economic and social situation as important and further added: “Achieving the sustainable goals or sustainable development is not possible without participation of a half of the population”.

Rebecca Tavares, the UN Women representative in Afghanistan also was present in the conference and stressed on joint cooperation for the elimination of violence against women.
