Khalilah Ali, the second wife of the late boxing great Mohammad Ali is scheduled to arrive in Afghanistan on Thursday, October 24, for a meeting with the country’s sports department officials.

Khalilah Ali married Mohammad Ali in 1967, before the two divorced in 1977.

Muhammad Ali was a boxer, philanthropist, and social activist who is universally regarded as one of the greatest athletes of the 20th century.

He became an Olympic gold medalist in 1960 and the world heavyweight boxing champion in 1964.

Following his suspension for refusing military service in the Vietnam War, Ali reclaimed the heavyweight title two more times during the 1970s, winning famed bouts against Joe Frazier and George Foreman along the way.

Ali retired from boxing in 1981 and devoted much of his time after to philanthropy. He died in 2016 at the age of 74.

The General Directorate of Physical Education and Sport of Afghanistan on Wednesday announced that Khalilah Ali “is traveling to Kabul to build a sports stadium”.

According to the directorate she wants to name the stadium victory.

The Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs (MoHRA) says a delegation of religious scholars from Uzbekistan arrived in Kabul on Wednesday at the official invitation of Noor Mohammad Saqib, the acting minister.

The ministry said in a statement that the delegation will discuss strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation with the authorities of the Islamic Emirate in separate meetings.

The statement added that the delegation will also discuss cooperation and exchange of experiences in the affairs of mosques and madrassas to improve religious issues and Islamic education and develop relations between scholars of the two countries.

The delegation will also visit historical and well known landmarks in Afghanistan.

Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, and Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, on Tuesday discussed the situation in Afghanistan on the sidelines of the BRICS meeting in Kazan, Russia.

Both sides pointed out the importance of Chabahar Port for the development and reconstruction of Afghanistan.

The Office of the Prime Minister of India has said that the long-term contract of Chabahar Port is critical for the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan and in strengthening trade and economic ties with Central Asia.

Modi said: "The development of Chabahar Port is the biggest pillar of our cooperation and we believe that this development plays an important role in regulating the relations between the two countries as well as the relations between Iran and India with other countries in the region."

Pezeshkian said that Afghanistan should be helped to achieve peace and stability.

According to a statement issued by his office, Pezeshkian pointed out the concerns of the Indian Prime Minister about Afghanistan issues and said: "We must build the future of the region with motivation and will and interact and talk with Afghanistan.

“We must help the Afghan nation to achieve peace, tranquility and prosperity by solving the problems," he said.

Pezeshkian also stated: "Iran supports any measure that helps stabilize peace and tranquility in Afghanistan."

The leaders of the two countries also exchanged views on regional developments, including the situation in West Asia.
