The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) said on Monday that it was with great regret they learned that the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Imam Solat Jumaat Bandar Tabriz Hojjatoleslam Al Hashem, and their accompanying staff lost their lives in a chopper crash on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by the IEA, “the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and all Afghans are deeply saddened and affected by this tragic accident.

“We share this grief with the Islamic Republic of Iran and the people of that country, and offer our condolences to all the families of the victims, the nation and the government of Iran,” read the statement.

The announcement also stated: “In this difficult situation, we are with the people of Iran and we pray for forgiveness to all the victims of this accident and patience to their families.”

On Monday morning, an Iranian official confirmed the deaths of the president and foreign minister.

This comes after rescuers searched through the night in mountains in the north west of the country for the crash site.

The helicopter had been returning to Tabriz after the president and foreign minister visited a dam project on the border with Azerbaijan.

The chopper went down in bad weather in remote mountains that are heavily forested.

Imran Khan calls Pakistan’s threatening to attack Afghanistan ‘foolish’

Khan warned that the new operation under the name of Azm-e Istehkam will increase instability in Pakistan.

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan in a message from prison said on Friday that Pakistani officials are “foolishly” threatening to attack Afghanistan, instead of restoring relations with the Islamic Emirate for countering terrorism.

In the message, Khan emphasized that without the support of the Afghan government, Pakistan would not succeed in the newly announced military operation.

“If you launch an operation against the Taliban (TTP), they will flee into Afghanistan. Without cooperation from Afghanistan, you cannot succeed in this operation. Why didn’t Bilawal Bhutto and the current foreign minister go to Afghanistan? Restoring relations with Afghanistan is our immediate need,” he said.

Khan warned that the new operation under the name of Azm-e Istehkam will increase instability in Pakistan.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif announced that his country will continue to carry out attacks in Afghanistan as part of Azm-e-Istehkam operation.

Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry in response warned that any attack would have consequences.

Pakistani officials have repeatedly claimed that attacks in this country are orchestrated in Afghanistan. But the Islamic Emirate denies these claims, saying that Afghanistan is not responsible for Pakistan’s security failure.

China and Tajikistan on Friday expressed their support in a joint statement for establishing an inclusive government with the participation of representatives of all ethnic, religious and political groups in Afghanistan.

According to the joint statement, the two sides reaffirmed that an independent, neutral, united, inclusive and peaceful Afghanistan, which is free from terrorism, war and drugs and lives in peace and harmony with all of its neighbors, is in the common interests of the Afghan people and all countries in the region.

The joint statement was issued during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Tajikistan after attending a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana.

The summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in a statement had also called for establishing an inclusive government in Afghanistan.

The Islamic Emirate, however, considers countries’ call for an inclusive government “unwarranted and futile,” reiterating that it is an internal matter.
