Afghan intelligence agency operatives have arrested seven members of Haqqani network terrorist group in eastern Afghanistan’s Paktia province.
The National Directorate of Security (NDS) released a statement on Wednesday saying, the militants planned to carry out coordinated terrorist attacks in Gardiz city of the province.
The individuals were identified as Ashraf, Sultan Jaan, Shukrullah, Sayedullah, Najibullah, Fazluddin and Mazomuddin.
According to the statement, the detainees have confessed that they were employed by Ghazi and Jahadyar, two Haqqani network commanders, on the other side of the Durand Line to execute the plots.
The Haqqani network is a militant group that continues to fight Afghan and U.S. forces in Afghanistan. It has been blamed for some of the deadliest attacks in Afghanistan, including attacks on embassies in Kabul, the Afghan parliament building, local residents and U.S. military bases.
